We have been drinking old fashioneds for a few years, now. We thought we had a good recipe, until our friend Figgy, a mixologist in Ft. Lauderdale, opened our eyes to a really yummy drink—warming bourbon, zesty and fresh orange, and indulgent cherries—we’ve added a few naughty additions, and finally, we think we’ve found our pièce de résistance!
Makes 2 cocktails
6 oz bourbon
1 oz simple syrup
4 drops angostura bitters
2 large ice cubes (or regular if you don’t have)
2 Luxardo cherries
2 orange twists
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine bourbon, simple syrup, and bitters in the cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain drink into 2 glasses each filled with 1 large ice cube. Add a cherry to each glass. Peel 2 slices off the orange’s skin. Take orange twists and wipe the rim of the glass with the inside of the peel to take the oils from the peel and perfume the rim of the glass. Squeeze peels lengthways over the glasses to release the remaining oils into the drink. Drop peels into glasses.
Drink with good friends, family, and/or pets!
